Ava Update and What I've Been Eating Lately :)

Ava is sleeping and I have a peaceful moment to myself so I thought I'd sit down to share some thoughts. Usually I post Ava photos at the end of my posts, but today I'm going to get right down to it :)

Awesome papa! Sometimes the only way to get her to sleep is to put her in the Ergo like this and bounce her around. She doesn't seem to like it when I have her in there though. Recently she has started liking when I carry her around in the Maya sling though, as you will see in the photos below :)

Woody picked out her outfit this day ;)

Didn't Woody do a good job dressing her? ;)

 My girls <3

Gotta represent for breastfeeding awareness month!! :)

She's so exquisite. It's unreal.

I can't believe she's almost 3 months old! The experience so far is even better than I thought it would be. My heart has never felt so full, nor have I ever felt so complete. I didn't know it was possible to love someone so much. It's been so fun and amazing to watch her development and see her change daily right before our eyes. She is SO aware and alert and loves to just look all around her and take everything in. She smiles at us and her animal friends in her activity zone. She is gaining more control of her neck and can hold her head up for longer periods of time. She is really into sucking on her hands at the moment. And she is getting really good at grabbing and holding onto things. She LOVES bath time. She is starting to get more creative with the sounds she makes. She's exploring and experimenting with her self and discovering what she can do. She sleeps through the night almost every night, but it's sometimes hard to get her to nap during the day. Overall she is such an awesome, chill, happy baby. She's doing SO good. Woody and I are doing really well also. I think we work together so well and are  such a good team. Our relationship is a bit different than it used to be, which is to be expected but, we love each other more than ever. Having a baby together has definitely strengthened and deepened our relationship.

I had my first night out a couple weeks ago!! I pumped some milk before I left and also have a stash in the freezer, so I felt comfortable leaving Ava with Woody and knew that she would have plenty to eat. I went out for some beers with some of my best girlfriends.

I had SO much fun! It felt a little weird to be away from Ava though, and I definitely missed her. I couldn't stop talking about her all night and was anxious to get back to her. I was only out for about two hours, but I think it was really good for me. And really good for Woody and Ava to have alone time. I drank two beers!! It had been a LONG time since I'd done that! It felt good :)

I can't think of a way to make a smooth transition to food, so I'm just going to go for it!

I have been eating really well...aside from lots of cookies still ;)

I have recipes to share, but I'm going to wait until next time ;)

I have been eating healthy meals as well. Not just cookies all the time!

Delicious coconut curry! I'd like to share the recipe for this too, but another time :)

 Roasted root veggies!

Delicious fritatta with kale, sweet potatoes, chicken apple sausage and goat cheese. Udi's toast smothered in ghee on the side.

Eggs scrambled in coconut oil, steamed green beans and baked sweet potatoes topped with sea salt and sage.

Kale, bacon tomato salad! A bunch of kale massaged with avocado, nutritional yeast and sea salt. Topped with bacon, baby tomatoes and goat cheese. Amazing!

I have more things to share like recipes, photos, and a postpartum body/exercise update but, I think I have already squeezed enough into this post. Besides, having more things to share will probably mean that I will post again sooner than later!

I'm curious about who reads my blog. I know my friends and family do, but I wonder what kind of "strangers" read and follow along. Please feel free to leave a comment and tell me about yourself if you're a frequent visitor. Thanks!

Love and blessings! <3

Thanks Alaina, glad you're doing well and love to see that you're passionate about similar things as me! Perhaps we can get together whenever you're in the bay area or I'm up north so our girls can meet too! Love Haleh

Hello Alaina! I discovered your blog this summer, I have tried to comment a few times, but run into issues (is it just me?). I came across your blog looking for recipes.. I LOVE your style of food, and I love those coconut oil cookies! You are an uplifting writer. You and Woody and Ava's story is just beautiful. I told my husband it makes me want to have kids :)) Love from Alaska

Hi there Alaina! I've been meaning to comment for awhile since I discovered your blog well over a year ago. i too had my own little bundle of joy, so as you know mamas get behind. your daughter is beautiful....so happy for you guys. and the fact that you mastered the ring sling makes me super jealous haha. my ring sling was my worst enemy.

I also wanted to say that you look fantastic for three months post partum. I have yet to get my figure back. one day I hope.

weird question but I've wanted to know for over a year now....where do you get your clothes. you have great style. thanks! Take care!

Hey Ashley! Thank you! You're so sweet! Congratulations on the babe. Isn't motherhood the best?!

I get my clothes from all over! I shop a lot at festivals and online. Some of my favorites are Maha Devi Designs, Leom Designs, Buddhaful, Nectar Creations, Queen of Hearts (all of these designers have websites-just google the name) And there is a great shop in my town that has a lot of my favorite designers. They have a website as well. Funk and Flash. Check it out! Good luck and have fun! :)
